NWFed Round 3: Amanda Wright Reports

Thursday night (21 November) was the 3rd and final round of the NWFed once again against Amersham and Stoke Poges, hosted by us and kindly judged for us at short notice by Mark Buckley-Sharp, standing in for Paul Burwood who was unable to attend. Mark explained to us the methodology behind his judging style, looking for the technical aspects, composition and story the author was trying to portray. He also explained how he always only selects two 20's when judging this competition which will therefore automatically provide the two allocated stars and at least one 15 from each section to help him judge his scale. I couldnt help feeling though that subject matter played an important role in his decisions on several occasions.

We started the evening with the prints, 5 from each club and we didn't do too badly as we were awarded 3 19's. Sadly though we did get the 15 (very unfairly I thought). Amersham were awarded both 20's ergo the two stars.

Final print scores:

  • AME 92

  • EHH 89

  • SPCC 86

Our top scoring prints were

  • Mimi by Paul Mason 19

  • Quiet Misty Morning by Annie Hackett 19

  • Valencia Vulture by John Clare 19

In the PDI section, despite holding back 3 images, two by EHH and one from Amersham, Mark still only awarded two 20's but this time we got one! Sadly though we also once again were on the recieving end of his 15!!

I can say though on this rare occasion that we beat Amersham by 2 points.

Final scores for PDI's

  • EHH 89

  • AME 87

  • SPCC 86

Our top scoring PDI's:

  • Up In The Clouds by Annie Hackett 19

  • Kasbah Encounter by John Clare 20 and a Star

Putting together the scores from all the 3 rounds the final result was

  • 1st Amersham 581

  • 2nd EHHPS 569

  • 3rd Stoke Poges 530

So Amersham will go through to the Semi-Finals with their opponents TBC; they are a tour de force and we wish them well.

Congratulations to all our top scorers throughout this hotly contested competition. We achieved a good number of Starred images across the 3 rounds which will get a shot at Best Image of the NWFed Competition on Final Day in February next year in the separate 'Starred Images' Competition

EHHPS Starred PDI's

  • Carpet Of Light by Kris Mason

  • Piece Talks by Paul Mason

  • The Sweet Spot by Rick Beresford

  • Kasbah Encounter by John Clare

EHHPS Starred Print

  • Abandoned Dreams by John Clare

Until then.....

(Amanda Wright)
